Keith Hartwell

Biography

Keith Hartwell is a seasoned lobbying and public relations professional who has strong experience managing national and local grassroots political activities and legislative initiatives on behalf of corporate and industry association clients.

His background includes writing and processing over $200 million dollars in transportation grant and loan applications as well as drafting client speeches, articles, press releases, congressional testimony, and position papers related to legislative and political activities. He has also produced various educational videos promoting clients’ legislative agendas.

Keith notably represents railroad and transit clients. He has directed national, multi-year grassroots lobbying and public relations efforts to secure congressional approval of a short line railroad rehabilitation tax credit, which was extended six times since 2007 and was made permanent in 2020. Additionally, he led a government affairs effort related to federal regulatory approval of a leading railroad merger.

Keith is a humorous writer well known among industry clients for his annual satirical musical review of politics and lobbying activities in Washington, D.C.

Keith lives in Northern Michigan just outside of Traverse City and is an active member of the Leelanau Conservancy, which preserves and maintains natural areas that have been donated to the Conservancy.
