Katie Kachel

Biography

Katie Kachel advocates for municipal, public agency, trade association, and corporate clients on a variety of legislative and regulatory issues before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies. With nearly two decades of experience, she designs and implements federal funding and policy strategies on matters related to economic development, freight and passenger rail, mass transit, aviation, and port development.

Katie previously served as special assistant to the chief of staff for former U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Maryland), a long-time senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its former chair. Her duties included advising the senator on appropriations and other legislative issues. Katie was also responsible for developing appropriations training guidance for newly elected senators. Prior to that, she was a legislative aide to former Maryland State Senator John C. Astle (D-Annapolis), who served as vice chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Katie is a two-time awardee of the Bryce Harlow Foundation Fellowship and serves as chair of its Alumni Advisory Board. The Bryce Harlow Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of professional advocacy and increase the understanding of its essential role in the development of sound public policy.
