Blank Rome Government Relations Welcomes Bruce Sexauer to Its Policy Consulting Team

Blank Rome Government Relations LLC (“BRGR”) is pleased to welcome Bruce Sexauer as Senior Advisor. Bruce brings more than three decades of leadership and technical experience from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (“USACE”), with a focus on civil works, permitting, and complex project delivery. His addition strengthens BRGR’s capabilities in advising stakeholder and project sponsor clients on Corps-related issues across a range of sectors, including energy, transportation, maritime, and infrastructure.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bruce to the team,” said C.J. Zane, Managing Principal of BRGR. “Bruce’s deep knowledge of the Corps’ civil works programs and permitting processes, coupled with his proven track record of engaging with Congressional stakeholders and advancing major infrastructure projects, sets him apart in our industry. He will be an invaluable resource for clients navigating federal regulatory challenges and seeking strategic guidance on Corps-related matters. Bruce brings an understanding of the Corps that is national in scope, while having particular affinity for Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.”

Bruce’s distinguished career with the USACE began in the Seattle District, where he served in a variety of key roles, including as a hydraulic engineer, project manager, plan formulator, and program manager. His extensive civil works planning experience encompassed project formulation for ecosystem restoration, flood risk management, navigation, and recreation. Bruce is also well versed in the Corps Emergency Management programs, having planned and implemented several levee rehabilitation projects.

After relocating to Alaska in 2003, Bruce became a senior planner and later advanced to Chief of the Planning Section, before being appointed Chief of the Civil Works Branch in 2014. Throughout his tenure, he oversaw the planning, permitting, and delivery of critical infrastructure projects, such as navigation improvements, environmental restoration, and flood risk management. He led major studies, including the Alaska Deep Draft Arctic Port Study and the Alaska Baseline Erosion Assessment, which was recognized with the Corps of Engineers Planning Achievement Award. Bruce has built strong partnerships with Congressional committees and federal, state, and local agencies. His experience in regulatory affairs, stakeholder coordination, and project management has benefited communities and industries across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

“I am excited to join BRGR and collaborate with its talented team,” said Bruce. “Throughout my career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, I have worked to deliver solutions for communities, industries, and government partners. Following my retirement from the USACE, I am eager to help non-Federal entities better understand how to work with the Corps, navigate Corps funding processes, and offer solutions for achieving the best results on their civil works projects. I look forward to applying my experience to help BRGR and Blank Rome LLP clients achieve their objectives, particularly those facing permitting, funding, or project delivery challenges involving the Corps.”

Bruce holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington and has completed advanced training in project management and public administration. His leadership has been recognized through multiple awards and commendations for excellence in public service and project delivery.
