A deep fundraising network and connections to influential corporations and lobbyists are set to power Gov. Kathy Hochul through the Democratic primary and may have persuaded a chief opponent to drop out.

Hochul’s path to victory was bolstered this week when Attorney General Letitia James ended her campaign for governor and announced her intention to seek re-election.

“Kathy Hochul’s been around for years. This is not a new rodeo for her,”&nbsp;said Alan Rubin, principal at Blank Rome, where he works for the firm’s lobbying arm.&nbsp;“All of the people who were Cuomo’s kind of folk, who were not thrilled with him but thrilled with what he was doing in the development world and financial world, are the people she goes to.”

Rubin said&nbsp;Hochul’s network is heavy on industries that are looking for contracting opportunities with the state–namely gaming, hospitality and telecommunications.

“You’re going to have telecommunications companies who see what they’re doing with the broadband money that’s coming out of Build Back Better and the infrastructure bill,”&nbsp;Rubin said.&nbsp;“Those are the kinds of folks and money that will be behind [Hochul].”
