Natural Disasters & Severe Weather: From Recovery to Resilience

Blank Rome LLP, 717 Texas Avenue, Suite 1400, Houston, TX 77002

Blank Rome Government Relations Principal Alan Rubin and Blank Rome LLP Partners John Heintz and Linda Kornfeld will join other leaders in Insurance Recovery and Emergency Response for an important panel discussion on how to recover from a natural disaster like Hurricane Harvey, and how to become more resilient to future disasters. The session will take place Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at Blank Rome’s Houston office. A cocktail reception will follow.

Between Hurricane Harvey and the paralyzing January ice storm, the impact on Houston has been historic and disastrous—yet, as a community, we are helping each other rise from the aftermath.

With the recent passage of the $81 billion federal disaster relief bill, it is critical to know key deadlines, requirements for reimbursements, what new monies might be available, and what processes are required to receive funding, including for block grants and emergency management services.

Insurance issues often arise months after an event, catching policyholders off guard and unprepared. Now is the time to maximize your financial assistance and insurance recoveries. Even if you were not directly impacted by these storms, it is important to understand how to prepare for future severe weather events.

Panelists will include: Insurance recovery attorneys and emergency response professionals from Blank Rome’s Severe Weather Emergency Recovery Team (“SWERT”), forensic accountants from Alvarez & Marsal, and insurance brokers from Wortham.

Topics will include: A discussion on the financial options available immediately following a natural disaster (including from FEMA and SBA), and how to maximize insurance recoveries by properly valuing, prioritizing, and pursuing insurance claims.

Who should attend? In-house Counsel, Risk Managers/Treasurers/CFOs or anyone in your organization with responsibility for claims management and insurance recovery.

What keeps you up at night? Please tell us what disaster and insurance recovery issues are of concern to you, and we will address them during our panel. We will also have Q&A and one-on-one discussion during and after the event. Please email your questions to Blank Rome’s Alena Leon at aleon@blankrome.com.

CLE and CPE credits available: This course is anticipated to qualify for 1.5 TX CLE credits and CPE credits in Accounting and Insurance.
